Petrodvorets – or Peterhof – is one of the most wonderful places to visit in the St. Petersburg area. Peterhof is a remarkable example of 18th-century architecture. Russia's most outstanding masters, architects and sculptors collaborated in the creation of its lovely palaces, extensive gardens, numerous fountains and cascades that invite comparison with Versailles, which provided much of the inspiration for its design.

   The fountains of Peterhof, of which there are more than 140, are considered the finest in the world. In the volume of flowing water, variety of form and duration of play they have no equal and the intricate system of pipes stretch for more than ten miles.
