State Tretiakov Gallery

    State Tretyakov Gallery is the national museum of Russia fine arts of X-XX centuries. It is situated in Moscow and bears name of its founder - Moscow merchant and textile manufacture Pavel Tretyakov. The gallery was founded on this vast private art collection. In 1892 Mr Tretyakov presented his collection as a gift to the city of Moscow. At that time the collection consisted of 1,287 landscape paintings, 518 sketches and 9 sculptures by Russian artists including Vasily Syrikov, Alexander Ivanov, Ilya Repin, Konstantin Korovin and Vasily Perov. It gives the opportunity to represent the whole history of Russia art from the ancient period to our contemporaries. Besides, the structure of the Tretyakov Gallery includes memorial museums: A. Vasnetsov's flat.

The State Tretiakov gallery celebrated its 110 th anniversary on August 15, 2003.
