A small, but very ancient town located between Moscow and St Petersburg, Novgorod is the best place to get a taste of Russia how it used to be hundreds of years ago. In Novgorod, you can see beautiful old churches and monasteries, and the Novgorod Kremlin (traditionally known as the Detinets), a masterpiece of medieval architecture which also contains the oldest palace in Russia, dating back to 1433 – the Chamber of the Facets. You can swim in front of the Kremlin or at Ilmen lake, and try the traditional Russian drink - "Medovukha" - in the restaurant inside the Kremlin.
