Northwestern Russia

Northwestern Russia

The Russian North is a sacred place for Russians. This is a very picturesque area with lots of lakes and deep rivers. In fact, this is where ancient Russia was born. Thanks to its considerable number of monasteries, North-West Russia became one of the country’s largest religious centres. The Silver Ring is the name of the tourist route that passes through the most picturesque cities of the Russian North-West and the Baltic Sea coast. Tourists can enjoy the natural landscapes of Karelia - a land of thousands of lakes and rivers - the ancient fortresses of Ladoga and Pskov, sacred places such as Valaam and Solovki, St Petersburg with its magnificent palaces, and “amber” Kaliningrad, where dunes stretch as far as the eye can see. Nature is the most valuable treasure there.
