Northern Pearls of Russia

Discover two different aspects of north-western Russia – St Petersburg, packed with amazing sights and experiences, and Karelia, a varied and exciting region to explore, full of history, culture and fascinating people.

Karelia is an amazing region, and your journey of discovery begins in its capital, Petrozavodsk, where nearby Kizhi Island and its open-air museum of remarkable wooden buildings is waiting to be discovered. Standing on Lake Onega, Petrozavodsk itself is a fascinating place to explore. Then we’re off to Kem, stopping at Kivatch Nature Reserve along the way, as well as the Belomorsk Petroglyphs (prehistoric cave art). Don’t forget to visit Solovki Island with its fascinating monastery and Kremlin, before setting off for stunning St Petersburg.

Russia’s ‘cultural capital’ is a truly fascinating city. During your stay, you’ll visit one of the world’s most impressive museums: the State Hermitage, home to one of the finest art collections you’ll ever see! Other highlights include the Alexander Nevsky Monastery, Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, Kazan Cathedral, St Isaac’s Cathedral, Peter and Paul Fortress and iconic Palace Square. Or maybe you’d simply like to explore the city’s countless canals and rivers at your own pace – it’s no wonder St Petersburg is known as the Venice of the North.
